Santa Fe Wins Three Top USA Today Awards

Santa Fe, New Mexico has won top honors in three USA Today Reader Choice awards. Santa Fe was named the “Best Destination” overall in the following three categories as voted on by USA Today readers:

Santa Fe Award #1: Best Destination for Culturephiles
Here’s what was said about Santa Fe: “At 400 years old, Santa Fe is the nation’s oldest capital. Native American, Latino and Western cultures have produced an abundance of fine arts and colorful festivals. Museum Hill, art galleries, studios and historic churches draw admirers year round. Summers bring performances by the acclaimed Santa Fe Opera and free concerts are headliners in the Plaza. Other performing arts favorites are the Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco and the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.”

Santa Fe Award #2: Best Outdoor Enthusiasts
Here’s what was said about Santa Fe: “In Santa Fe, residents are hard-pressed to stay indoors with its high altitude that lends itself to deep blue skies, 320 days of sun and clean air. Located in the southern Rocky Mountains in a valley in the Rio Grande, Santa Fe is designed with the outdoors in mind from its Santa Fe River Walk and 22-mile network of trails to the rapids of the Rio Grande, mountain fly fishing and plentiful skiing in an average of 300 inches of snow each year.”

Santa Fe Award #3: Best Destination for Shopaholics
Here’s what was said about Santa Fe: “Perhaps one of the most unique cities in the US, the Native American culture found in Santa Fe is alive and well on every corner. It’s also well represented in the stores that are filled with perfectly polished turquoise, custom leather accessories and sterling silver jewelry. Famous names head to Back at the Ranch for custom cowboy boots while art collectors invest in the latest creations from artists like Poteet Victory, who is one of many talents creating and selling valued art in the same location. Each category had 20 nominees that was decided by a panel of experts. The final Top 10 rankings were then determined by a vote put to USA Today readers.

Randy Randall, the Executive Director of TOURISM Santa Fe had the following to say about the awards:
